EVENT DESCRIPTION
This Fat Rabbit Racing event takes place at Alum Creek State Park. Alum Creek’s large reservoir and gently rolling span of fields and woodlands provides a hub of recreational activity just minutes from Ohio's capital city. Alum Creek State Park contains Ohio's largest inland beach and reservoir is the backdrop for the Fat Rabbit Racing International Triathlon & Duathlon.
Part of your entry fee goes to the Alum Creek State Park’s general park fund to help support and maintain the park’s facilities and conservation programs.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Triathlon starts at the Alum Creek Beach with an age group dash into the reservoir. Athletes will head out into the reservoir to do a counterclockwise triangular course of 750 meter (for Sprint - 1 lap) or 1500 meters (for International or 2 laps) before returning back to the beach and into transition. Note again... International distance athletes will to complete a 2nd lap.
The Duathlon will begin with an opening out-n-back 2 mile run along the beach of Alum Creek before heading out onto wooded trail to reach the park access trails where they will proceed another mile before returning back to Transition Area (T1) where they will merge with the triathlon participants.
All participants then begin the exciting bike portion ... athletes will head out of Alum Creek State Park, turn RIGHT onto Lewis Center and then turn RIGHT onto Old State to Cheshire and again turn RIGHT. Then cross over the reservoir via the Cheshire Bridge to Africa Rd. Athletes will turn RIGHT and head South on Africa Rd and begin a very fast 5 mile stretch to Lewis Center Rd. At the intersection of Africa Rd and Lewis Center Rd, athletes will turn RIGHT, pass by the Below the Dam area and begin a .25 mile, grade 6 climb back to Alum Creek State Park. NOTE: See the directions below for your laps on the bike course!
Sprint athletes will re-enter the park and head into transition.
International distance athletes will PASS by the Park entrance and complete a 2nd loop. Athletes will re-enter the park after completion of the 2nd lap.
Athletes will then begin the final leg of their Alum Creek experience. Athletes will run along the path that separates the sand from the grass along Alum Creek before heading out onto wooded trail to reach the park access trails. They will continue their run down the hill of access road No. 1 – turn right and head northwest. Athletes will run down the main access road before turning around and returning on the park access road TO LEWIS CENTER RD. Athletes will turn LEFT and staying on the LEFT side will take Lewis Center Rd back to the Main Park entrance. AT the park entrance, athletes will turn LEFT and run on the left side of the road before turning LEFT at the first parking lot. Staying on the left side, athletes will run down the 1st parking lot onto the sidewalk and down to the sidewalk path the separates the grass from the beach. Sprint course athletes will turn RIGHT and head back to the Finish line. International distance athletes will turn LEFT and repeat the course and second time. Athletes will be able to see the finish line at the final 0.3 mile as they begin their final push to the finish line along the Alum Creek reservoir as they complete the Alum Creek Triathlon
